Here at Paul Wood Florist we are enthusiastic about providing quality flowers that will be long lasting once they've left our store, and are in the comfort of your own home or office. Prior to arrival at our store, our flowers have been stored in a special preservative solution. With each of our floral arrangements, specific rose arrangements, and loose cut flowers, we provide a care package with a packet of flower food along with care instructions.

The instructions for pre-arranged flowers include:
1. Check water level of arrangement, add warm water with preservative or flower food as needed. Always keep the water level high in your vase, and if your flowers were arranged in floral foam, keep that saturated as well.
2. Display arrangement in a cool location away from direct away from direct sunlight, and avoid excessive hot or cold areas.
3. Add water with floral preservative daily.

If you choose cut flower stems to put in your own vase the instructions are:
1. Start with a clean vase. You wouldn’t want to drink out of a dirty glass, neither do the flowers!
2. Mix the fresh flower food packet with warm water in the vase.
3.  Remove from the stems any foliage that may be below the water line, foliage in the water creates bacteria.
4.  Re-cut the stems (at least 1 inch) with a sharp knife or scissors, and immediately place in the vase with flower food.

So why are we so adamant about adding flower food? Flower food is filled with sugar to provide an energy source through carbohydrates which keeps the flowers thriving and healthy. Floral food is also formulated with an acidifier which lowers the pH level of the water, helping the flowers uptake more water as well as its nutrients. Stem unpluggers are also added to flower food, which are a mixture of ingredients that also lower the pH level, and eliminate stem plugging. All of these formulated ingredients will provide you with thriving, long lasting flowers!

"Ain't no Sunshine"

We've all heard the classic 1971 version of, "Ain't no sunshine," by Bill Withers. And it applies to all of us in Colorado more than ever these past few weeks with our constant rainstorms and lack of sunshine, and much desired warm weather. The News Stations are even saying this year we can't market our state with our usual 300 days of sunshine. Even as I sit here and type, the pattering rain is falling on the street while the thunder roars, creating small flowing rivers on the sidewalk.
It's easy to find yourself feeling 'off' when the weather seems to be consistently gloomy. Having a hard time getting up in the morning? Or losing your motivation early on in the day? Catching yourself gazing at your flip flops and swim gear with a sense of longing? You're not alone, we are all ready for the warm sun to heat our homes and cast rays of light into our bedroom windows each morning.
However, all of us here at Paul Wood do have a solution that can help with these rain blues. Stop in, shake off the umbrella, and browse through our house plants (we have quite the selection), or stroll through our cooler full of floral arrangements. You may also choose to pick through some of our loose stems of roses, lilies,  or daisies, to create your own personalized arrangement. It's amazing what a positive affect a flourishing plant, or blooming, wonderfully scented, colorful flowers can add to your everyday life.
So, come on in, and bring home some happiness, because we know, we know, we know, you need some.

For example, this arrangement with yellow lilies, orange tulips, and sunset orange snap dragons can add just the right amount of sunshine to your home or work place!

And the purple roses, white daisies, and yellow calla lilies of this arrangement, accented by yellow solidago filler can create the perfect amount of joy and light within your space!

It Smells Like Spring!

Hyacinth
Happy First day of Spring!
You are not alone if your thoughts are turning to blue skies, sunny days and colorful, fragrant flowers.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people comment when they walk in our front door "It smells SO good in here" or "it smells like Spring in here"! We are so fortunate to work around beautiful flowers all year long that I'm sad to say we become a bit immune to the smell.
If you love fragrant flowers, you too can have the smell of Spring around you.
Whether it be Stargazer Lilies, Hyacinth, Stock, or any number of Rose varieties, it only takes a few stems to bring Spring indoors to be enjoyed now, before everything bursts to life outside.
Drop in and see what aromatic blooms we have today!
